Create and manage tasks

Create, assign, update, and complete tasks while keeping comments and meeting context together in ClerkDirect.

Written by Max Sherman

Tasks help your team track work before, during, and after meetings. You can create a task manually or let a Task Schedule create recurring tasks. Once created, both kinds of tasks work the same way.

Create a task

  1. Select Tasks in the sidebar.

  2. Select New task.

  3. Enter a title and, if needed, instructions.

  4. Choose the person Assigned to the task.

  5. Add a due date and priority if they are useful.

  6. Select Create task.

Each task has one assigned person who is accountable for completing it.

Find and organize tasks

Use the views at the top of the Tasks page to focus the list:

  • Assigned to me shows tasks assigned to you.

  • Active shows unfinished tasks.

  • Completed shows tasks marked Done or Canceled.

  • All shows every task you can access.

You can also filter tasks by board or assigned person.

Update a task

Open a task to change its:

  • Status: Unstarted, In Progress, Done, or Canceled

  • Assigned person

  • Due date

  • Priority

  • Title or instructions

ClerkDirect keeps an activity history so your team can see how the task changed over time.

Add comments

Use comments to share updates, ask questions, or record decisions with the task. You can @mention a teammate when you want to call their attention to a specific comment.

The assigned person receives notifications for new comments automatically. You do not need to add them as a subscriber.

Add subscribers

Subscribers are additional people who should follow the task even though they are not assigned to complete it.

To add a subscriber:

  1. Open the task.

  2. Find Subscribers.

  3. Start typing a workspace member’s name.

  4. Select the person or press Enter to add them.

The person who creates a task is added as a subscriber automatically. Subscribers receive new-comment notifications along with the assigned person.

Connect a task to meeting work

You can link a task to agenda items or motions so the follow-up stays connected to the meeting where it originated.

Create the same task for several people

A manually created task has one assigned person. If the same work should be assigned separately to several people on a recurring schedule, create a Task Schedule and select everyone who should receive the task. ClerkDirect creates an independent task for each person.
