The ClerkDirect Microsoft Teams integration sends a Teams meeting's live audio and video into ClerkDirect for public broadcasting, recording, transcription, and minutes workflows. It uses Microsoft Teams RTMP-Out. ClerkDirect supplies the stream destination, while Teams always asks the organizer to confirm before streaming begins.
Before you start
You need:
A ClerkDirect account with access to the organization and meeting you want to stream.
The ClerkDirect Teams app installed or allowed by your Teams administrator.
A Teams meeting policy with live streaming enabled.
A scheduled Teams meeting and a matching ClerkDirect meeting.
For Teams web, Developer Preview enabled for the reviewer or organizer. Microsoft currently supports meeting side-panel apps in Teams web only with Developer Preview enabled.
Use the meeting side panel in Teams desktop or Developer Preview-enabled Teams web to start and stop RTMP-Out. Teams mobile provides a ClerkDirect companion for reviewing the meeting workflow and opening ClerkDirect meeting tools; mobile does not show stream start or stop controls.
Enable Teams live streaming
A Teams administrator must enable live streaming for the users who will start the stream. This is a Microsoft Teams policy setting, not a ClerkDirect setting.
Open the Microsoft Teams admin center.
Go to Meetings > Meeting policies.
Open the policy assigned to the meeting organizer, often Global (Org-wide default).
Under Audio & video, set Live streaming to On.
Save the policy.
Restart Teams and create a fresh test meeting after the policy propagates.
PowerShell equivalent:
Set-CsTeamsMeetingPolicy -Identity Global -LiveStreamingMode Enabled
This is RTMP-Out, which streams a Teams meeting out to ClerkDirect. Do not use Allowed streaming media input or RTMP-In; those settings control external encoder input into Teams.
Install or allow ClerkDirect
Open the Microsoft Teams admin center.
Go to Teams apps > Manage apps.
Search for ClerkDirect.
Allow the app for the users who will add it to meetings.
Your organization may also control app availability through Teams app permission or setup policies.
Add ClerkDirect to a meeting
Open the meeting in Teams desktop or Developer Preview-enabled Teams web.
Select Apps or the plus button.
Search for ClerkDirect.
Add ClerkDirect to the meeting and save.
Join the meeting and open the ClerkDirect side panel.
Link your ClerkDirect account
When the side panel opens, Teams verifies your Microsoft identity and ClerkDirect maps it to a ClerkDirect account and organization.
If the Teams email matches the ClerkDirect email, sign-in may complete automatically. Otherwise:
Select Link ClerkDirect account.
Sign in to ClerkDirect in the browser window.
Choose or confirm the ClerkDirect organization.
Return to Teams and select Retry if the panel does not update automatically.
Organization administrators can review or disconnect links under Organization settings > Integrations > Microsoft Teams.
Start streaming
The desktop and web meeting side panels use the same workflow:
Open the ClerkDirect side panel inside the Teams meeting.
Choose the ClerkDirect meeting that should receive the stream.
Select Start stream or Start Teams stream.
Confirm the native Teams streaming prompt.
After confirmation:
Teams sends the meeting audio and video to ClerkDirect through RTMP-Out.
ClerkDirect publishes the live meeting for the public and keeps agenda and broadcast controls together.
The side panel reports ClerkDirect broadcast and Teams stream status separately.
If only one system starts, the side panel offers the appropriate recovery action.
If the panel opens directly into a meeting setup, a ClerkDirect broadcast setup is already active. Open broadcast controls and cancel or end it before choosing another meeting.
Use the mobile companion
Open ClerkDirect from the meeting chat or details in Teams mobile. The companion:
Explains the meeting-to-public-record workflow.
Shows upcoming ClerkDirect meetings for your organization.
Lets you choose and open the matching ClerkDirect meeting workspace or open all meetings.
Start and stop RTMP-Out from the meeting side panel in Teams desktop or web.
The companion does not automatically assume that an organization-wide broadcast belongs to the Teams meeting you opened. Choose the matching ClerkDirect meeting. When Teams opens ClerkDirect in an external browser, you may need to sign in with your normal ClerkDirect account.
Stop and finish
Select Stop Teams stream in the ClerkDirect meeting side panel.
Use Open broadcast controls to manage or end the ClerkDirect broadcast.
Open the meeting workspace for the recording, transcript, and minutes workflow.
The recording and transcript stay with the ClerkDirect meeting and support minutes generation after the broadcast ends. Ending the Teams meeting does not replace ClerkDirect's normal meeting wrap-up steps.
Troubleshooting
DisabledByPolicy or live streaming not supported
Teams accepted the app, but the organizer's meeting policy blocks RTMP-Out. Ask a Teams administrator to enable Meetings > Meeting policies > Audio & video > Live streaming, restart Teams, and test in a fresh meeting after propagation.
Users cannot find ClerkDirect
A Teams administrator may need to allow the app under Teams apps > Manage apps or adjust app permission policies.
The meeting side panel is missing in Teams web
Microsoft currently exposes meeting side-panel apps in Teams web only when Developer Preview is enabled. Follow Microsoft's Developer Preview setup, then reopen the web client and meeting. Without Developer Preview, use the meeting chat/details companion for workflow and ClerkDirect links, and open the meeting in Teams desktop to start or stop RTMP-Out. If the preview option is unavailable, the Teams administrator must allow the applicable preview/custom-app policy. This requirement is separate from the live-streaming meeting policy.
Teams sign-in unavailable
Close and reopen the ClerkDirect meeting side panel. If the message continues, confirm that the latest ClerkDirect package is installed and allowed.
No upcoming meetings
Create or schedule the meeting in ClerkDirect, then reopen or refresh the Teams side panel or mobile companion.
Data and permissions
ClerkDirect verifies the Teams user through Teams single sign-on and maps that identity to a ClerkDirect account and organization. ClerkDirect stores the Teams tenant and user link so it can recognize the same user later.
ClerkDirect does not silently start streaming. The live audio and video leave Teams only after the organizer starts the flow and confirms the native Teams prompt.
